Definitely doesn't love the dentist.....

If you know Dan well at all, you'll know that he hates going to the dentist about as much as he hates flying..... well, this morning was NO FUN for him. Since he's left the emergency clinic, he needed to get as much out of his insurance coverage as he could, while he was still under their policy, so last week, he went to Dr. Ortman to get a routine check up and cleaning. He said that it was the worst dentist experience of his life..... it hurt and it took a long time, and he was sore afterwards. BUT, that wasn't the end of it. Because of his constant grinding of his teeth while he is sleeping, he had a couple of chips that needed repaired, which they promptly got him back in this morning for.

It was even LESS fun than the cleaning, and his mouth is numb all over, and he can't talk, or eat. He sent me this picture this morning, of his paralyzed right side of his face. Poor guy! I got a text from him a couple hours later, indicating that his mouth was getting MORE numb, not less. He might be that way for a while, just hopefully not permanently. :)

Happy Father's Day, Dan!

A recent picture of Dan and Trevor on the golf course.......

I'm a little behind on my posts. I did write this some time ago...... but am just now getting around to sharing. :)

Dear Dan,

Happy Father's Day! Although I cannot pick a "favorite" dad between you and MY dad, I wanted you to know how great I think you are. Not many people in the world are so lucky to have a father like you. Trevor's the only one. I love watching the two of you interact, and helping you guide him along the way, as he grows into a young man, and help shape his future.

The way that the two of you laugh together melts my heart, and I love seeing you smile when you're with him. Even though Trevor is 14 years old, he still says "I Love You, Dad" on a regular basis. I hope he never gets too "big" or too "cool" to do that...... because I know that it means more to you than we all will ever know. Even though I give you a hard time about it, and tell you that he's old enough to make his OWN egg sandwiches, I think it's sweet that you love to make his breakfast for him, and I know he loves that you spoil him with that.

Even though you're not a "dad" or a "father figure" to them, I love the way that you love Olivia, Gage, and Savannah. And they ALL love you to death. I loved last weekend seeing you up at the lake with a baby girl in each arm, and Gage on your lap. The girls wouldn't leave you alone. I smiled inside when I heard my uncle say to a family friend, "Those kids just LOVE Dan. All of them. They think he's the greatest thing ever.....they can't get enough of them. And he loves them, too!"

There are two men who get the "BEST DAD IN THE ENTIRE WORLD" award. You are one of them. I hope you don't mind sharing the award with my Daddy. If there was a "HUSBANDS DAY", I would certainly give you that award, too..... :) I love and admire you, Dan. Happy Father's Day. You're simply the best.

Love Always,

Sarah

To all readers wondering why I didn't mention my OWN father: I wrote him a note in his card..... he doesn't read this blog....so I saved myself all the typing. :) Ha!

Farewell Baker.....

One of my nearest and dearest friends in the world, Baker, is getting deployed to Afghanistan sometime in the next couple of months. We've known this for a while, but weren't certain of the exact date. His wife, Leslie, (who is one of my besties, too!) threw him a farewell party this past weekend at their house in Avon. It was a great time, but it was a very bittersweet celebration. It's great to have such a great group of friends.

Baker, we love you and support you for what it is that you do. We are going to miss you, and pray for your safe return. We appreciate you and respect and honor your bravery and dedication to us and our country. Much love! ~Dan and Sarah~

Here are some pictures from the evening:

Myself, Leslie and Elizabeth

Elizabeth and I. Extreme close-up. She was really into taking close-ups of people that night, for some reason. We have several.

Some of the guys. (Minus a few.) Jim, Mark, Sheller, Wes, and Brent

Two of my favorites.....Jamie and Leslie

Elizabeth and Jamie. This was the point in the evening when there was a smudge on the lens of the camera......that was there for quite some time.

Dan and Jim. Our friend Jim just got BACK from a deployment overseas. This was the first time that I have seen him since he's been back, although Dan has seen him and his cutie girlfriend, Amanda, several times. Welcome Home, Jim. Thank YOU, and we love YOU, too!

Me and the man of the hour.....still with the aforementioned smudge. :)

AAAAnnnnnddd the next morning. Baker and Dan just couldn't handle getting up so early, so they retreated back to Baker and Leslie's bed for some more zzz's. That is Dan under the covers, there. :) Ha!

Haircut!!!

In case you didn't know, Dan cuts his own hair. I've always been REALLY impressed with it. He stands in front of the mirror, clippers in one hand, and a mirror in the other, and a comb in his mouth, and cuts his hair! It's pretty impressive, really. :) He always does a really good job, and aside from a few goof ups here and there, you wouldn't even know he cuts it himself.

We're always trying to get Trevor to cut his hair. He likes to wear it long.....and well, we just don't really like it. Although, we have never MADE him cut it. While he was here for Spring Break, he actually ASKED Dan if he would cut his hair. Now, for any of you who know Trevor, you would know that he has the THICKEST hair you can imagine. It took FOREVER! Seriously, I would bet that it took about an hour to cut it all and get it short. :) But he has short hair, he likes it, and it looks great. Although, now, we have dull clippers, but that's okay. Price you pay, I guess. Here's some pictures:

Yes, Dan is in his bathrobe, and yes, that is the vacuum behind him.

Work in progress. (See? Doesn't Dan's hair look good?)

The mess. :)

Boiler Up!

Or not.....
We went to the EndZone to watch Purdue play UConn last week.....and were sadly disappointed. Dan and I have this competition going for our brackets. Unfortunately, neither of us are doing well at it......I'm not even sure who is winning, to be honest. :) Here's some pictures from the night!

Best Friends......Myself, Dan and Marcus

Not sure what they're doing here.....biting their nails? ?? Hmm.... (Mark and Dan)
We took this picture about 400 times to get a good one.....and this was the best that we got. Nice smile, babe!
Rick and Rhona.....Rick was also being less than cooperative for this photo.

The guys....Dan, Larry, Mark, Rick and Anthony
Marcus, Rick and Larry!

Definitely a couple of camera hams.....

There is never a dull moment where these two are concerned..... :) They're definitely a couple of camera hams. :) And I have to admit, they're pretty CUTE camera hams! I'll keep 'em!

P.S. Notice Trev's new haircut? Compliments of his dad. :) I have some pictures of that, too....am a little behind on the downloading. Pretty funny stuff!!

Fore!

Dan and Rick took the boys (Trevor and Eddie) golfing this past weekend at Deer Track Golf Course in Frankfort. I think that they had a great time, but the golf game was a little slower than what they had anticipated.......six hours!!! :) The weather was beautiful, and they did indeed have fun! I'm looking forward to getting out on the course sometime soon!

Farewell, Army Guys!!

Okay, so this post is a little late.....but.....I wanted to share the photos anyway. A few of our dear friends are being deployed overseas sometime this spring. We all got together for one last hurrah at Lafayette Brew Co. and the Cactus to big them farewell. Although a bittersweet occasion, everyone had a great time.

To all of you, we appreciate what you do, so that we are protected. We are proud to call you our friends. Dan having been there at one point in his life, holds service to our country as one of the most respectable things ever. We will miss you dearly, and love you always. Don't worry, we'll take good care of your wives while you're gone, as it's going to be harder on them than anyone.

Dan and I at the Lafayette Brew Co.

Ryan and Leslie at the Lafayette Brew Co. We're going to miss you, Baker!

Elizabeth and Dan. She pretends to not like him, but deep down, I think she does. :)

CHEESE! Elizabeth, Baker and Brent at the Cactus.

Myself, Leslie and Elizabeth

Dan and Elizabeth. Later on in the night. She's not looking so swell.....

Such a cute couple. Derek and Gretchen. We will also miss YOU, Derek!

MUAH! Baby......

Chad and Elizabeth dancing at the Cactus.

OK, this is gross. I know. Dan couldn't resist. These people were sitting right behind us in the piano bar. The entire night, he had his hand down her pants. Just like that. I'm not sure why. Maybe he was trying to cover up the 6 inches of asscrack that she had hanging out the entire night. Rather disgusting, actually. I think she should consider some jeans with a little bit of a higher rise in the back. Yuck.

Jamie and Jennifer. In trouble, having to stand on their chairs and sing.

Adios, Amigo!

So our dear friend Tiffany is leaving us. She's heading across the border to Monterrey, Mexico, where her boyfriend Jay has moved for his job. We're going to miss her. This past weekend, we had a farewell party for her, appropriately named "Adios, Amigo!" Tiffany arranged for us to have the Presidential Suite at the Holiday Inn downtown. Megan and Tiff did lots of food and fun stuff, and it was a complete blast. Tiff got a humping dog, seen here.....and Chanin appropriately wore the signature Mexican mustache, also seen above. We're going to miss you, Tiffany. We are having a throwback Monday Night Football Party (even though there is no football on) tonight at our house in her honor.....stay tuned for more pictures of that! :)

Tiffany and I. And the humping dog.

I don't think she is meaning to flip us off.....but she got a new set of golf clubs and the Tiki Bar sign. Chanin in her Dirty Sanchez costume.....

Crazy. We love them!

Brooklyn. There were sombreros there, and it was mandatory that you get your photo taken wearing the sombrero. This one was enormous, really......and it was hard to hold your head up with it on your head.

Dan and Andrew. Dan would make a good Mexican. He looks good in a sombrero. Although, I think he would probably look good in about anything. :)

This is not a joke.....

This really was our neighbor yesterday. He was out in his lawn on a mower. And it was running. It appeared that he was attempting to "mow" some grass....... Ha!

And yes, that is Dan, standing in our front yard, in plain view, taking photographs of the guy, as if he couldn't see him or something. :) Ha!

Sick Baby!

Olivia is sick. That's no joke. Poor baby girl. Today, "YUNKLE DAN" is watching her so her mommy and daddy could go to work. This is an up-to-the-minute photo. Don't the two of them look pathetic? Dan worked all night last night, and hasn't been to bed but for a few hours, and she's not feeling well..... :-( They're cuddled up on the recliner watching cartoons.

Get well soon, Olivia. Thank you Dan for being the best "YUNKLE" in the world, and loving her as much as I do.

What are the odds??

Dan and I have been MIA for about two weeks. No blogs, haven't left the house much, we're pretty pathetic. This all started almost 2 weeks ago now. On Thursday, I came to work as usual, and my eyes were really irritated. I washed my contacts off several times that day, but they were burning, irritated, and itchy. I got home, and hopped in the shower, where I took my contacts out and was going to resort to my glasses. Well, no more than I got my contacts out that I realized that something was seriously wrong. I couldn't open my eye, it was sensitive to light, and felt like I had a handful of sand in it. I laid all night on the couch with my eyes shut, and got up and went to bed around 11:30. At 4:00, I woke up, and my eye was hurting soooo bad that literally, no kidding, I was screaming in pain. I wanted to cry, but my eye hurt too badly. Finally, at 5:30 a.m., Dan couldn't stand to see me in such pain, so he took me to the emergency room. The ER doctor on call did confirm that I had indeed scratched my eye, put some good ole' tetracaine on there, and numbed it up. I felt sooo much better. He prescribed me some antibiotic drops, and some heavy duty pain meds, and off I was. Dan had a house call in Monticello, so he stopped off there and did his house call. While he was in there, the pain meds started to wear off, and I was in just as much pain again. The doctor wouldn't give me any of the numbing drops. Well, lucky for me, I live with a doctor who would rather give me the medicine than he would listen to me whine. So, off Dan was to Lafayette to get a bottle of tetracaine. (Yes, in the same class of drugs as COCAINE.) To make a REALLY long story short, the scratch got infected, and then turned into an ulcer, and it took me over a week to recover. If you have never scratched your eye, let alone gotten an ulcer in your eye, it's the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I have been hit in the face with a shotput, and it didn't compare to this. I'm really really lucky to work in a place that is so understanding and great about it. I was off for a week, although I did work remotely for two days last week, although I'm back, and feeling much better now.

Now,......on Friday night (yes, the same day that Dan took me to the ER in Monticello) he called me and informed me that he himself was on the way to the emergency room in Lafayette, as he had just gotten bitten by a dog. The little chihuaua bit him right on the pinky finger, and bit clear through his finger. You could see his bone. I rushed in there, although to discover that it wasn't quite as bad as I had expected, but still felt terrible, because although I've never personally been bitten by a dog, I have heard that it's incredibly painful. So, we were both in the ER in the same day. What are the chances of that?

We're both healing nicely, me probably a little better than him, if you can believe that. His pinky is infected and swollen, and he can't straighten his finger out. It's gotta be painful.

So......here's the picture. Living proof. Our hospital ER bracelets. Priceless.

Happy Birthday, Dan!!

Dan celebrated his 28th birthday (for the 8th time) on Friday. We had such a great time out with all of our friends!! We had planned to go to the new Nine Irish Brothers pub on the East side, and Chanin was amazing for making the reservations for us! Thank you. However, there was some type of mix-up with the reservations. Since there were 12 of us, and the wait was unreasonably long. So, instead, we opted to head to the EndZone, where we had a table waiting for us when we got there. (Thanks to Beth and Matt for coordinating that for us! Much appreciated!) We had a great time, ran into our friend Larry, who we definitely don't get to see often enough, and then ended the evening at Rick and Rhona's house for an evening recap.

Thanks to everyone who came out to help Dan celebrate, I know that he appreciated it, and as always, I had such a great time seeing everyone and having a few cocktails! Here are some pictures from the evening:
