Sweet Dreams, Sleep Tight.....

Our cat is crazy.
He's spoiled rotten, and the most pampered kitten you'll ever meet in your life. He loves being around people, so naturally, he sleeps all day long, and then proceeds to keep us up all night. In summary:

12:05 - Lay down in bed, set the alarm and turn off the lights. Exhausted.

12:10 - Freeney comes in the room and proceeds to attempt to jump up on the bed twice, and misses. Finally gets up there on the third try. Promptly walks up to the head of the bed and starts to chew on my hoop earring. I put him under the covers, where he sleeps most of the time.

12:15 - Decides he'd rather engage in a "pouncing spat" than sleep. Proceeds to get out from under the covers and jump from one end of the bed to the other, stopping just long enough to lick my hair every so often. This goes on for ten minutes.

12:25 - Freeney is now standing on my nightstand licking my glass of ice water. I find the squirt bottle and squirt him in the face. He jumps down and disappears under the bed for a while. Presumably, licking himself.

12:45 - I'm almost asleep. I am woken up by the noise of my cell phone beeping. It's not a familiar noise to me, so I pick it up and see what it was making that noise for. Oh right. I had plugged it into the charger next to the bed (not normally where I charge it), and Freeney was playing with the charger, pulled it from the wall, and my phone was alerting me to let me know that it was no longer charging. I get out of bed and plug it back in. While I'm up, might as well go ahead and get some new ice water, since the cat has had his face in it. This time, I put it in the "Freeney-proof" cup, with a lid. An adult version of a sippy cup.

12:48 - I return to the bedroom, and find Freeney swatting at, playing with, and chewing on the string for the mini-blind. The blinds are half up and half down, and all tangled up. I take three minutes to put them back in place, this time securing the cord at the top so it is out of his reach.

12:50 - Another 10 minutes of pouncing. This time, I spank him and tell him to lay down. He does. That lasted about two minutes.

1:02 - Again, I'm just about to sleep, and BANG! I sit straight up and look around, searching for the prowler that I thought was somewhere in my house until I hear a horrific sounding buzzing noise. It is then that I realize that Freeney, in his playtime on DAN'S nightstand this time, knocked over his fan, and a picture frame that was sitting there. I again get OUT of bed and pick up the fan.

1:12 - Freeney is chewing on my engagement ring. I don't think he can hurt it, but it's annoying. I spank him again, a little more sternly, and put him on the floor. Hoping and praying that he will disappear until I am at least sleeping heavily.

1:15 - Freeney is in his litter box, which is in Dan and I's bathroom. He proceeds to (what I refer to as) "play" in there for approximately 4 minutes. I'm yelling at him, and the noise stops. He doesn't come out. I again get up, to find him stuck, half of his body in the toilet, and half of his body out of the toilet. I retrieve him, and put him on the floor.

After about 45 more minutes of pouncing around, jumping off and on my face, waking me up several times, and jumping from the bed to Dan's nightstand to our dresser and knocking over about 5 bottles of perfume, Freeney got kicked out of the bedroom and the door shut. He only sat at the door and whined for ten minutes, which is an improvement on some nights. I think I finally got to sleep around 2:00. And I'm glad that Dan is home for the next week, because the nights with "Freens" is much easier with another referee.

Here are some recent pictures:

If he cannot sleep with us, paperwads are the next best thing. He's particularly fond of paper wads.

We are clearly not kidding about the cat wanting to sleep right on top of us. He prefers our faces, actually, but this is about as close as we let him get.

Or on our arms, during a nap on the couch.

And if that doesn't work, he'll curl up in any bit of laundry that he can find. Notice this is next to the laundry basket.....so the jeans must have come FROM the laundry basket onto the bed, where he made his nest.

And THANK YOU, TIFFANY! The pooping penguin was not intended to be a cat toy. However, it's one of his favorites. It doesn't poop anymore, and I think it might not have a head anymore, either, but it does still bounce around and jump and make some really obnoxious noises. We're forever grateful. :)

Freeney's New Favorite Place

His new favorite place is in Trevor's room. He loves to crawl up on the bed there and look out the window. The sun shines in there, so the bed is pretty warm most of the time from the sunlight. Here's a couple of pictures:

He's still a bit clumsy. Dan snapped this picture the other day, after Freeney went to jump on the bed, missed, and landed in the garbage can. :) Ha!

Sittin' in the sunlight.... :)

Lookin' out the window! :)

Sushi indulgence.....

We love sushi. There's no question. We could eat it all day every day......yum! Baker and Leslie live in Avon, and have a great sushi place right by their house. We've been there four or five times with them, and I swear that it gets better every time! This time was no exception, but for some reason, when I walked out of there, I felt a little different about it this time.

We picked up Jamie last night and drove down to Indy to Baker and Leslie's with the intent to go out to eat. Of course, we chose the sushi place. This time, we chose to sit at the Hibachi Grill and order some stuff prepared by the talented Japanese guy who sings and dances while he makes fiery volcanoes from onions. Leslie sat at the table and filled out the sushi order form, as we all bellowed out our requests. Las Vegas Roll. Philadelphia Roll. Rainbow Roll. The works. We ended up with a sushi order of 6 sashimi selections, and 9 (yes, NINE) rolls. We were all looking forward to eating sushi leftovers for lunch today. However, there wasn't a single piece of food left on the table. No leftovers for any of us. We ate every single bit of it. Three bottles of wine later, and a bill of several hundred dollars, I walked out of there ashamed of myself.

Not because of the amount of food that we ate, or the wine that we drank, or because I had a few too many and did something embarrassing. But because we all sat there and indulged in ridiculous amounts of food, while spending more than some people make in a week, and didn't think twice about it. For some reason, that really hit me last night. There are starving people all over the world. Some right there in Indianapolis. Children in impoverished nations. There are people freezing every night because they can't afford to pay their heat bill. People who can't get medical care because they don't have insurance, and no money to pay for healthcare. Not only did it make me feel guilty for being such a glutton, but it also made me realize how lucky we truly are. All of us.

God has blessed us with a lot of things, which we should thank him for daily. Maybe I'll think twice before shoving my face full of sushi and teryaki chicken next time. Although, it was pretty good.

Happy Birthday, Dan!!

Dan celebrated his 28th birthday (for the 8th time) on Friday. We had such a great time out with all of our friends!! We had planned to go to the new Nine Irish Brothers pub on the East side, and Chanin was amazing for making the reservations for us! Thank you. However, there was some type of mix-up with the reservations. Since there were 12 of us, and the wait was unreasonably long. So, instead, we opted to head to the EndZone, where we had a table waiting for us when we got there. (Thanks to Beth and Matt for coordinating that for us! Much appreciated!) We had a great time, ran into our friend Larry, who we definitely don't get to see often enough, and then ended the evening at Rick and Rhona's house for an evening recap.

Thanks to everyone who came out to help Dan celebrate, I know that he appreciated it, and as always, I had such a great time seeing everyone and having a few cocktails! Here are some pictures from the evening:

Dan and I. Happy Birthday Baby!!

Beth, Rick, Myself and Rhona back at the Johnson's. Rick, put your white tongue away!

2008 Reflections.......Happy New Year!

We sat down and talked about everything that we loved in 2008. It's amazing to think how much our lives have changed in just one year. We have much to be thankful for, and are grateful in all the ways that God has blessed us. We both made a list, which we've combined, and here is the results:

We both learned that everything happens for a reason. For the sake of getting too personal on a blog, just trust that we have both been through a lot to get to where we are today. Although the long road finally prevailed, we were grateful that it made us realize that everything indeed did happen for a reason.

The birth of my nephew, Gage. On September 26, baby Gage came to join us! He's an adorable little boy, who has a whole family who loves him.

We started this blog, and have done a fairly decent job of keeping it up. One thing that Dan and I always said was something we needed to get better about was keeping in touch with old friends and family. It's been good for me to write this blog, as it's nice to hear that people are indeed reading it, and keeping up on what is going on in our lives.

MNF (Monday Night Football) Parties. We have such a fun and great group of people that we call "friends". Every Monday night (with the exception of a couple), we had a houseful of people whose company we enjoyed, both old and new friends. We did themed food (NY Strip Steaks with the Giants played, Cajun food for the Saints, and Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches when the Steelers played) and always had plenty of beer and fun! It was a great time with our friends, that we look forward to the start of football season again next year!

Spending days at the lake on the boat or sitting by the fire. My parents have a lake house that they graciously share with all of our family and friends. We had numerous days up there in the sun, cruising on the boat, and swimming in the lake. Everything about that place is happy. If you look around, you realize that you are surrounded by friends and family, and see smiling faces and kids laughing everywhere. It's truly a happy place to go that makes you forget about all that is wrong with the world, and be grateful for a nice place to share memories with loved ones.

Our trip together to New Orleans. Dan and I decided very early in the year (and subsequentially, very early in our relationship as well!) to go to New Orleans this past summer on a vacation/work trip. He was going for work, and although I worked a LITTLE while I was there, I was going along for the ride and relaxation. We rolled the windows down, turned the radio up, and left the day after my birthday for Memphis. Stayed the night there, and then went on to New Orleans the next day. We also got engaged in New Orleans, which marks the beginning of a new life we will have together.

Days that I return home from traveling. It's no secret that I travel for my job. Some of our favorite memories (something that made it on BOTH of our lists!) are those days that I return from a trip. Whether it's a flight returning at 7:00 a.m. from the West Coast, or a flight from Virginia getting in at 2 a.m., we spend the next 24 hours catching up on everything that we missed during the time that I was away, and reminding ourselves how we miss something we love so much when it's gone. I always take the following day off, and will continue to do that, as those days are some of the many "best" days that we have had together! :)

Spending the day at the pool with Dan's nieces and nephews. Over the summer, Dan really wanted to spend the day with his nieces and nephews, on a special "Uncle Danny Day Out". So, we loaded up, and took all of them (Yes, that's right, ALL of them!) to the Tower Park pool in Logansport and then to Sycamore for ice cream. Something so insignificant, yet, it meant the world to those kids. In addition, you have no idea how happy it made me to sit on a lawn chair by the pool and see those kids hanging all over him, wanting him to catch them at the end of the slide, throw them in the pool, race them to the other side, watch them jump in, etc. The love that he has for kids (especially our nieces and nephews) makes my heart smile, and I love seeing him that happy when they're all together.

The New Year's Holiday. New Year's Eve will be a significant day for both of us for the rest of our lives. It was the day that both of us realized that our lives, although separate at the time, were moving in a different direction. Although we had no idea on New Year's Eve 2007-8 that those different directions would lead us to one another, we, along with our friends, toasted our glasses on 12/31/07 to making 2008 the best year ever. And we did. Together. This year, on 12/31/2008, we again toasted (and kissed, this year, something we didn't do last year!) to making 2009 better than 2008.

Everything that we have to look forward to in 2009. Gosh, don't we have a lot to be thankful for? But as we look back on 2008, one thing that we have to be thankful for is all the things that 2008 has given us to look forward to in 2009. I'm excited for it all. And although some of the things that I look forward to most are highly personal, some of the not-so-secret things that we're excited about are: vacationing in Texas this summer, and visiting several of our friends and family, our WEDDING, football season, AGAIN, taking a trip to St. Louis for a weekend with Marcus, seeing where our year takes us in our careers, and watching Trevor play football again this year.

Thanks to all of YOU for helping to make this year the best year ever! We're looking forward to the memories to come in 2009.

His new favorite spots.....

Freeners has found a couple of new spots to hang out..... There are no words to describe this picture below.....

He's also discovered that my laptop is warm, and a good place for him to lay. He's not heavy enough right now to hurt anything, but he's not going to be able to lay there forever.... :)

Your Highness and her Court

Dan and I picked up Olivia and Gage from daycare last week. Prior to picking her up, we were given the heads up by Brent that her Barney was at daycare, and NOT to forget to get him. When we picked her up, we of course made sure to get Barney, but when we got back out to the car, we realized that not only did she transport Barney to daycare, but the whole entourage, too. And she insisted that we tuck them into the car seat with her, and they rode ALL THE WAY home from the comfort of Your Highness' lap.

And Gager baby smiled and laughed and giggled away at Dan for a long time! He's too cute!

Go Colts...... or not......

One of the technicians that works with Dan had this Colts flag made for him. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a nice gesture, and it's a well made quality flag. I like that it's a Colts flag, but I'm not certain that we really need to have our name written all over it. :-) Dan dug it out and hung it on the outside of the garage for the game on Saturday. It didn't help. We lost. Good thing about that?? The flag comes down.

Christmas Partyin' like RockStars @ Marco's

The Saturday night after Christmas, we had a little post-Christmas bash at Marcus' house with a group of friends. What a scream. We had such a great time, and although parts of the evening were a bit cloudy for all of us, I'd do it all over again.

We even had a white elephant gift exchange that some of us remember. (Some of us don't.) Ha! I was fortunate enough to score a child's musical set, and although I didn't open them and they didn't belong to me, I wound up with a pair of High School Musical earmuffs and the matching gloves. That, believe it or not, are really warm. Ha! See the photos below:

Tiffany, Jay and Mark. Jay has the earmuffs around his neck.

There they are. The earmuffs and the gloves. Marcus wasn't in the best of spirits that night, after one too many shots of Grey Goose. He's not really as bitter as he looks.

Chanin, Tiff and I. Awe.....

Chanin, Dan and Marcus. The funny part about this picture is that Dan had no idea that Chanin was behind him. He was leaning down to pose with Marcus, and she snuck up on him! Ha!

Dan and our nephew, Eddie. He was there with Rick.

Chanin and Rick.

Eddie and Dan vs. Chanin and Rick. I have no idea who won. :)
Thanks, Marco, for having us all out, for letting us trash your house, and for cleaning it all up the next day, after everyone took off. We love you to death!

Welcome, Freeney!

We did Christmas here at our house with Trevor the day after Christmas. Of course, he was super excited to open all of his presents.... Clothes, MP3 player, motorized scooter, pull up bar, more clothes, a stocking full of stuff, he didn't do too bad. Dan and I exchanged gifts (a navigation system for him, and a Wii Fit for me), too.

After all the presents were opened, Dan announced that there was one more present.....then I heard him. Freeney. A kitten. Meowing from the small bathroom. :) I had mentioned a few times that I might like to have a kitten, so Dan started the search to get one for me. And that's how we ended up with Freeney. And I must admit, as I sit here and type this right now on the couch, with the laptop on the coffee table, he is cuddled up in my lap, purring away. He's definitely a mommy's boy. Here's some pictures, definitely the first of many more to come, I'm sure......

Morning after Christmas.....
He didn't have a name yet at this point.
Sittin' up on Dad's lap.

And on his back under the coffee table, trying to bite Dad's shoe.

With Dan at the clinic...... This was the day after he got declawed. He was crying and hurting so bad, we kept him sedated, because I couldn't stand it. It made me want to cry. So, he went to work with Dan a could of nights so he could watch him. His little hands were all bandaged up, and we called them his "boxing gloves". He kinda' skiied around with them. It was pretty funny.

Sitting on the couch at Dan's work with his boxing gloves on. Look at that sad face.... :-(

And perhaps, just perhaps, he enjoys Coors Light. :)

And enjoys playing in boxes, too.
Note: Our house is not a disaster. Dan was throwing newspapers at him in the previous two photos,......we're really not slobs. :)

Merry Christmas (a little late) from Dan, Sarah & Trevor

As I said earlier, I haven't blogged for quite some time......so here are some Christmas photos from us...... wishing you a Merry one. Although, I should be wishing you Happy New Year, or perhaps Valentine's Day, as this is REALLY late.......

We made Trevor put this sweater on for the pictures. He was hating us, and thought that was the stupidest sweater he's ever worn. Although, the next day, we noticed he was wearing it again, on his own free will.....we never told him to put it on. :) It must not have been THAT bad. Ha!

And he especially liked THIS picture. :) I told him I was going to post it on his MySpace. He didn't laugh. I don't think kids think it's nearly as funny as their parents do. Ha!

Dan and I on Christmas day at my parent's house. Trevor was spending Christmas with his own family, so he wasn't able to join us. We missed him.
Happy Belated Christmas to you all!!

Merry Christmas'es with the Crowe's.....

After leaving my parent's house on Christmas Day, we headed to Grandma Crowe's house for Christmas with Dan's family. I admit that the pictures that we took there that day, for some reason, didn't turn out at all..... :-( So, we only have a couple.

Although we had just eaten chili soup, ham, oyster soup, among a wide spread of other things at my parents house, we still indulged in some rigatoni's that Dan's Grandma Crowe made. Yum! I'm pretty blessed that I have been adopted into such a great family. :-)

Grandma Crowe and I. She will be turning 91 in March.

Although a little picked over in this photo, this was my contribution to the Christmas dinner. Every year, for Christmas, I make a relish "tree" (as opposed to relish "tray")..... It's nothing more than a foam floral cone, covered with aluminum foil, and covered with broccoli (for the green part of the tree), cherry tomatoes (for ornaments) and a yellow pepper (for garland). Dan and I sat together at the kitchen table at my parent's on Christmas Eve, and he helped me stick the toothpicks in the vegetables and apply them meticulously to the tree. Dan's family thought it was a hoot! I'm glad that they liked it! :)

Again, had a blast with the family, and we talked on the way home about how thankful we were that we have such a great families.......

Savannah

There is absolutely no significance of this photo whatsoever, but I think she's so adorable. This is my God-Daughter, Savannah. She belongs to my cousin Wade and his wife Deborah, and is very dear to our hearts!!

Christmas with the Moss Family

I've taken a break from blogging lately in an effort to get caught up on things around here.....and finally have a break in all the action to actually sit down and upload some pictures and dump my camera. :) So, needless to say, I have a lot to report on.

The holidays were great for us, and although we did a lot of traveling back and forth from place to place, we did have a lot of fun with our family and friends. We started off the week on the 23rd, with our own "Christmas Edition of Date Night"...... Dan was actually WANTING to go to the mall in the peak shopping time and walk around. Of course, our shopping was done, but we somehow managed to spend a couple hundred dollars on "last minute" and "extra" gifts for people. We had dinner at the Other Pub, went to the mall, went to look at Christmas Lights, and then laid on the living room floor and watched The Christmas Story.

Christmas Eve, we drove to my parents house where we spend the afternoon there with them, visiting, and helping my mom get things around for Christmas morning the next day. We had Christmas with my family on Christmas morning at my parent's house. It's always been that way, and I'll probably always want it to be that way. It's always just my sister and I and our families, and my grandparents. Of course, we often have some passers-by, and are always happy to see Aunt Wanda and Uncle Jeff when they come by.

This year was especially fun for us, because Olivia was old enough to get into the presents...... and we had a blast watching her excitement when she opened everything. Dan and I walked away like a couple of bandits, once again reminding ourselves how lucky we are. And, since, although we enjoyed ALL of the mound of gifts we recieved, I've enjoyed cooking with my new cookware, and sleeping on our new down pillows.

Here's a few photos from the day:

Dan and I and the kiddos......growing up so quickly, and getting so big. :-)

Gager baby and myself.....he's such a wonderful baby!

Nana (my mom) bought Olivia a leotard for Christmas. Hers has a little skirt, like a little ballet tutu.....and the matching shoes. She goes to gymnastics (yes, that's right, gymnastics), and Nana thought that she really needed a leotard. And although Mom struggled a bit to get it on her, we finally did, and she modeled it around for us all. Too cute!

My beautiful sister, Elizabeth, and that cute baby, sleeping soundly. (Olivia calls him "Big Boy"........)
OK, so here's the deal. Dan spoils Olivia. Horribly. Although he blames me for it, he's just as bad or worse than I am. She's recently taken a liking to Barney, and all of his characters. You know, B.J., Baby Bop, and the rest of the entourage..... :) Dan found online the WHOLE SET of plush Barney characters. So, of course, he bought them for her. He paid too much for them, and they are ugly, but it was his mission to make her the happiest little girl on Christmas morning, ever. And so he did.......This was the expression on her face when she opened the box. :)

And here she is retrieving the characters from the box......

And later when she wanted to take a nap, on the rug in the living room.....all covered up WITH them. She insisted. Hee hee.....

There is a doll at Nana's house named Patty. It's as big as she is. And she loves it. She talks about "Patty" all the time....... and is seen here posing with her. Imagine Olivia's confusion when my AUNT, whose name is also "Patty" came over for Christmas dinner......she didn't quite get it.

Olivia and Patty, again. :)
Gage and his little Christmas hat.....

Getting changed on the bed......too cute!
Christmas for us was great, and we enjoyed spending time with all of our friends and family, and especially enjoyed the kiddos. :) Sorry this post is so late......I'm catching up. Stay tuned for more holiday fun!
