Sushi indulgence.....

We love sushi. There's no question. We could eat it all day every day......yum! Baker and Leslie live in Avon, and have a great sushi place right by their house. We've been there four or five times with them, and I swear that it gets better every time! This time was no exception, but for some reason, when I walked out of there, I felt a little different about it this time.

We picked up Jamie last night and drove down to Indy to Baker and Leslie's with the intent to go out to eat. Of course, we chose the sushi place. This time, we chose to sit at the Hibachi Grill and order some stuff prepared by the talented Japanese guy who sings and dances while he makes fiery volcanoes from onions. Leslie sat at the table and filled out the sushi order form, as we all bellowed out our requests. Las Vegas Roll. Philadelphia Roll. Rainbow Roll. The works. We ended up with a sushi order of 6 sashimi selections, and 9 (yes, NINE) rolls. We were all looking forward to eating sushi leftovers for lunch today. However, there wasn't a single piece of food left on the table. No leftovers for any of us. We ate every single bit of it. Three bottles of wine later, and a bill of several hundred dollars, I walked out of there ashamed of myself.

Not because of the amount of food that we ate, or the wine that we drank, or because I had a few too many and did something embarrassing. But because we all sat there and indulged in ridiculous amounts of food, while spending more than some people make in a week, and didn't think twice about it. For some reason, that really hit me last night. There are starving people all over the world. Some right there in Indianapolis. Children in impoverished nations. There are people freezing every night because they can't afford to pay their heat bill. People who can't get medical care because they don't have insurance, and no money to pay for healthcare. Not only did it make me feel guilty for being such a glutton, but it also made me realize how lucky we truly are. All of us.

God has blessed us with a lot of things, which we should thank him for daily. Maybe I'll think twice before shoving my face full of sushi and teryaki chicken next time. Although, it was pretty good.
